My Cop’ Harry Styles as secretive gay cop caught in a ’50s love triangle

Harry Styles finds himself “in the throes of history, freedom, and forgiveness” in the first trailer for “My Cop,” the romantic drama set to hit theaters this fall.

Based on the novel by Bethan Roberts, My Cop follows Tom Burgess (played by Styles), a secretive gay cop who begins a secret relationship with museum curator Patrick Hazelwood (David Dawson). Unable to accept his truth in the face of social pressure in 1950s England, Tom marries a woman, Marianne (Emma-Colin).

Actors Linus Roache, Gina McKee and Rupert Everett play old Tom, Marion and Patrick, respectively, with My Cop caught up in the 1990s when they were “still struggling with longing and regret, but Now they have one last chance to repair past damage,” according to the outlet.

My Cop, directed by Michael Grandage, is one of Styles’ two major performance projects this fall. In September, the Grammy winner will appear in “Don’t Worry Darling,” directed by his girlfriend Olivia Wilde and co-starring Florence Pugh.

Speaking on “The Howard Stern Show” last month, Styles said filming “My Cop” left him feeling “vulnerable” but denied rumors that he would be naked in the film.

“I think the most important thing in that kind of thing is trust,” he said. He said: “I’ve never kissed anyone on camera before, and in some ways it felt like giving a part of myself to someone elseā€¦. No penis in the final cut. Penis, yes It was negotiated in advance, and it would be my own.”

“The whole point of Tom is that he’s a confused character,” Grandage told Vanity Fair in an interview published last week. “Because he was a police officer and his job was to uphold the law, that made him more problematic. And the laws in the country at the time were about everything he felt – the complexity of which was whoever played young Tom And older Tom needs to understand and absorb in some way.”
