Kate Hudson honors Kurt Russell on Father’s Day, and his response is too sweet

Celebrity dads who are just like our dads: Communicate in the best way they know how through social media.

Kate Hudson shared a sweet Father’s Day souvenir with her followers on Sunday, paying tribute to Kurt Russell, longtime love of her mother Goldie Hawn.

“Fun, adventurous, passionate, determined, honest, dedicated, terrific dad and the best hair in LA,” she wrote alongside a retrospective photo of her hugging Russell in bed. “We are so lucky! Love you dad! Happy Father’s Day”.

Hudson was raised by her mother and Russell, Horn’s partner for nearly 40 years, as the “Almost Famous” star became estranged from her biological father, musician Bill Hudson.

Since Russell didn’t have her own social media, Horne passed on her daughter’s message and then publicly shared his heartfelt response in the comments for all to see.

“Honey, I showed this to Dad. Here’s his message…” Horn wrote.

“Little bird, my mom just showed me this picture and it’s the perfect Father’s Day gift. I’ve never seen this before. Wow…this is a killer,” Russell wrote. “There’s a lot of water under the bridge…albeit a little ugly because all the water seems to get into my eyes somehow…thank you for making me the luckiest dad in the world dear Yes. I love you, Dad.”

“How can I explain my gratitude and love for the greatest dad who gave us all so much in this life,” she captioned the photo.

Hudson and her brother, actor Oliver Hudson, were born during the couple’s marriage between Bill Hudson and Horn, which lasted from 1976 to 1982, but both agreed Russell is their father.

Horn and Russell share a son, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” star Wright Russell. The “Escape from New York” actor is also the father of son Boston, who was born from a previous marriage to Ji-Harberley.

Hudson has repeatedly praised Russell’s pivotal role in her life over the years, calling him “a great loyal protector” and “our reliable authentic captain” in a Father’s Day post last year.

But the estrangement from his biological father still weighed heavily on the star.

“I have a great family, I have a beautiful mother. I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge role in sharing what it takes to have a solid father figure in our lives,” she said in last year’s interview. “Sunday Today with Willie Guest”.

“But that doesn’t affect the fact that we don’t know our father,” she continued, describing the breakup as a “41-year-old problem” that continues to this day. “People sometimes just need to hear that they’re not alone.”
